BioGrow Endo Plus

(contains 3 species of Mycorrhizal Fungi)

BioGrow Endo Plus contains three species of Mycorrhizal Fungi plus 2 species of Tricoderma and a Biostimulant.I have been doing a lot of research into products that will help Giant Pumpkin Growers overcome the limiting effects of soil pathogens such as Fusarium, Pythium and Phytophora. The effects of soil pathogens are widespread and can limit the potential of your plants at low levels and completely wipe out pumpkin plants at high levels. BioGrow Endo Plus inoculates the roots of pumpkin plants with the critical Endomycorrhizal Fungi that all cucurbits need to grow strong and resist disease. BioGrow Endo Plus is like two products in one. It has the beneficial Endomycorrhizal Fungi and also contains two strains of Trichoderma, which is the active beneficial microbe in the product Rootshield, another powerful tool against soil pathogens. BioGrow Endo Plus comes as a dry granular media containing the dormant beneficial microbes. Mix some into the potting mix in which you start your seeds and also mix some into the planting hole when you set your plants out in the patch. The Endomycorrhizae and Trichoderma inoculate the growing roots and a beneficial symbiotic system is formed. The microbes grow out with the expanding root system, and colonize the entire growing area. Mycorrhizal Fungi (M.F.) creates long filaments that penetrate plant roots and can increase the absorptive area of roots by 10 to 1,000 times. Several miles of filaments can be present in a thimbleful of soil and act as an extension of the root system known as a mycelial network. M.F. are able to absorb and transfer all 15 major macro and micronutrients necessary for plant growth. They also release substances that dissolve tightly bound nutrients such as Phosphorus and Iron. In addition, M.F. attacks disease pathogens near the root zone by excreting specific antibiotics that immobilize and kill disease organisms. M.F. improves soil structure by producing humic compounds that bind soil particles into crumbs or granules. The result is a more porous soil with better aeration and water infiltration. BioGrow Endo Plus is appropriate for all cucurbits: pumpkins, squash, cucumbers and all melons. In soils highly contaminated with soil pathogens you may need to use a soil treatment such as Subdue Max and/or Clearys about 1 month before planting time. Directions for use: Thoroughly mix 3.5 ounces of BioGrow into each 1 cubic foot of potting soil or seed starting mix before filling pots for planting. When setting out transplants thoroughly mix 3.5 ounces of BioGrow into each 1 cubic foot of soil that is removed to make your planting hole. Backfill inoculated soil under where the plant will go and all around the root ball or peat pot to get immediate contact with emerging roots. The beneficial microbes will expand outward with the growing root system, and also inoculate roots, which come down from the vine and contact roots spreading out from the center. Later in the season you may want to use some BioGrow in the trench at the rooting site when burying vines some distance out. It is not known for sure if this added step is necessary, but it would make good sense to try on your top couple plants.

Soluble Seaweed Powder

LAND O’ GIANTS Soluble Seaweed Powder is a super concentrated soluble organic product. Now you can get all the goodness of Norwegian Seaweed without paying for water and paying to ship water! Each 10.7-ounce packet of powder is equal to 1 gallon of concentrate.

Norwegian seaweed contains a complex matrix of natural plant growth stimulants, including gibberellins, auxins, betraines and cytokinins. These are the factors that influence cell elongation, differentiation, and cell division. Norwegian seaweed is also rich in naturally chelated minerals and trace elements, carbohydrates, vitamins, and amino acids. Norwegian seaweed also contains primary and secondary plant nutrients. Foliar applications of Norwegian seaweed stimulate photosynthesis, resulting in a more efficient production of sugars and starches. Specific carbohydrates in seaweed cause an increase in beneficial microbial activity, which results in a lessening of pathogenic soil fungi due to competition and physical exclusion. Regular applications to the foliage of plants can induce a systemic resistance against a range of fungi, bacteria, and viruses. Norwegian seaweed applications also improve a plants ability to withstand environmental stresses and may reduce the attack and flare-ups of insects, and disease on plants by stimulating the plant to produce phytoalexins and peroxidase.

Norwegian seaweed can help plants be slightly more resistant to cold and light frost by increasing the mineral content of intra-cellular plant fluids. Tests on potatoes, using just 3 foliar applications of Norwegian seaweed resulted in an increased average tuber weight of 24.2%. 5 foliar applications on seedless grapes resulted in a 31% increase in crop yield and a 21.9% increased average berry weight.

Soluble Fish Powder (12-1-1)

Soluble Fish Powder is superior to liquid fish emulsions. It is produced in a low temperature process which enzymatically digests fish protein preserving vital factors. Liquid fish is made in a high temperature process that can break down the amino acids, vitamins and enzymes. Liquid fish emulsions also require powerful stabilizers and preservatives to avoid spoilage. Soluble Fish Powder is completely dry and requires no additives. It is also most economical as you pay for product only and not water! Soluble Fish Powder is less expensive to ship, easier to handle, and more stable in storage. The soluble fish takes a little more work to thoroughly mix, compared with the seaweed powder. I use very warm water and mix once, and then I let it sit for 20 minutes or so, and stir a second time.

This is a perfect partner to our Soluble Seaweed Powder. The Soluble Fish Powder provides more nitrogen and macronutrients and the Soluble Seaweed Powder provides the essential trace minerals, growth promoting hormones, and has up to 6% potassium. The two products can be mixed with each other for a combo-spray, or applied separately. Both are also compatible with regular soluble fertilizers such as Peter’s or Miracle Grow. 1 pound of Soluble Fish Powder is equal to 2 gallons of liquid fish emulsion concentrate.

Biomin Calcium

Calcium doesn’t translocate through a plant as readily as some nutrients. When things are really rolling, the plant may have difficulty moving sufficient calcium from the roots to the growing tips and fruit. Foliar spraying calcium can be very effective. Biomin Calcium is similar to Calcium Metasolate, but is higher in available calcium. Biomin is a highly effective foliar fertilizer, especially when used during the active growth stage.
