Cedar-Apple
Rust
Description: Bright orange spots on leaves and fruit. Generally
weakens tree. Fungi that cause cedar-apple rust complete
part of their life cycle on red cedar trees where in
spring they cause large, bright orange, sticky lesions
at the end of branches.
Solution: Cedar-apple
rust can be reduced by removing nearby eastern red cedar
trees. Apply Soap-Shield® Fungicidal Soap
two weeks before disease normally appears, or when forecasters
predict a long period of wet weather. If disease has
already appeared, repeat at 7-10 day intervals for as
long as needed. Reapply after rain. If leaf burn develops,
use Bordeaux Mixture or Rotenone/Copper Combo Combo 7 days
after petal fall and 2 weeks later.
