: Sounds like either rabbits or deer. Marigolds are a delight to them. Slugs would not devour the whole plant. Human urine is a good deterrent, no joke. Good luck.

: : I'm having a terrible time with something eating flats of marigolds! They totally eat the flowers, leaves, stems, everything! Nothing is left so I can't check for slugs or the like. What could it be and what can I do? I put out mothballs all around the beds in hopes that it will curtail the destructive behavior on the few plants that i have left.

Believe me Slugs will devour the whole Marigold, especially when it is rainy, they come out in the night and feast upon them, it has happened to me. If you should go out early in the morning, you just may see them trying to get away before you see them. Check the grass in the area or any other plant that may be around. You may need to get slug repellant from your local garden store. But then again they may not even help much.
