morning glories grown in pots

: I've seen photos of Japanese morning glories, asagao. The clever gardeners have a technique of growing them in pots and forcing the flowers to grow slightly above the leaves. Does anyone have an idea about how this is accomplished? I assume there's a lot of selective pinching back involved. Sure would appreciate some feedback.
