Pest control for petunias

: I planted some beautiful pink and blue petunias this year, but there is something killing them.  The leaves and stems are covered in little black dots that are literally eating through the leaves faster than I can keep up.  I've also seen what looks like a very small catepillar.  Can someone please tell me what this is and how to get rid of it??  My poor flowers are dying! :(
