I have 3 nicotiana plants in pots, which I thought were looking pretty good, until i happened to compare the foliage with a few leftover nicotianas I plunked down in an obscure bed in mysideyard. What a difference! The potted plants were watered daily, fertilized weekly, and were root bound. The in-ground plants were watered a couple times this season, and left to their own devices in relatively dry soil, not especially good stuff, and a hot side of the house. These plants had relatively small root balls, and were vey green and loaded with blooms. Both get direct sun.Is this a case of too much kindness harming the potted plants?
