: I just received a packet of lavender seeds from France. They were a gift and being that I don't want to screw them up, I need any and all help. I live in Tampa, Florida. Please tell me everything.... what to do, what to expect, how quickly will I see results, will they do well and will they keep on coming back?

: Thanks so much.

: Karin - I live in St. Petersburg and also received a packet of lavender seeds from France. Since the directions were in French, plus I wasn't sure how our climate compared, I finally called the Pinellas County Horticulturalist. He told me that our climate is really too humid, so the plants will not live year to year. He suggested that I wait until late October or November, plant them in the little peat pots to get them started. After there is a plant, move to either a well drained pot or sunny spot in the garden. He said regular potting soil will work. If it they do bloom, that's good, but they will probably wilt (just like we humans do) by next August. Did you ever learn anything differently?
