Starting Annuals from Seeds

Even though my husband has gardened for years, I am just beginning to get excited about it. I thought I
would start some annuals from seed this year.
I am planning on buying cosmos and zinnia seeds from
Wild Seed Farms. Anyone have any opinions about the flower types or the catalog company for this beginner?
