You know something, I think you are right. I went out almost a week ago and was pulling some weeds and grass away from the flower bed and smelled a sewer type smell. I also discovered some green around some of the dirt and my retaining wall brick so my guess is that I was watering and not allowing the soil to dry some and then a fungus of some type began to grow. I think I need to do what you suggest and not water but once or twice a week at most. It gets very very hot here. the days lately have been 101 - 105 degrees and everything dries out so fast. I don't have a problem with my potted plants because the soil dries out everyday but there is so much soil in a flower bed not to mention the fact that there is wood chips in there that I am guessing is just helping to retain moisture. I have not put any more miracle grow out for a couple of weeks or so either. You had mentioned it was synthetic, is there something that you know of that is better? Thanks so much for your response, I am definatly going to be watering less!
