: I too was wondering what to do with the spent stems/leaves from my Glads. I now know that I can cut the stalks and then dig up in Oct/Nov (I live in Zone 4).
: However, the leaves and stalks have been pulverized by Grasshoppers (they only came on once the flowers were done.) Is this normal? I know many places across the country are having grasshopper/locust issues this year, but wonder if Glads are an especially desireable food source?

Hi Elaine,
I've found that grasshoppers don't seem to care what it is that they eat and seem to just be random in their choices. They once killed an oakleaf hydrangea of mine and left the other two right next to it alone. Go figure.
