: While researching Tithonia rotundifolia (Mexican Sunflower) I found reference to it being called "clavel del muerto" which is Spanish for Carnation of Death. I can't find any information as to why. Does anyone know??

: Thanks!

Hi Cheri,
I searched the Cornell University database of poisonious plants and several others, as well as google.com, and I find no reference to it being poisonious. I suspect that the flower is used in ceremonies that relate to death or at funerals.

Do let us know if you find out for sure.
Newt
