Start a new Aloe plant

: I have a huge aloe Vera plant and would like to start a few more off of it. i have been told that I can take an arm of it and plant it and it will grow but every time I do this it dies. I love aloe's but I can not seem to grow any other than what I buy. Any help in starting a new plant would be very much apperciated. Thankyou.
