Feel the dirt before watering & only water if it's bone dry. I abuse my plants constantly by (what feels like to me) under-watering them & the Aloes seem to love it. The other thing to check would be if they are getting enough sunshine. Put them in the sunniest spot (southern facing) that you have. If that doesn't seem like enough light to you, then you might try a full-spectrum light bulb. Home Depot sells some called "Reveal" that claim to be full spectrum & my plants seem to do quite well with them. (There are also fully certified full spectrum florescent bulbs that you can get at light bulb specialty shops, but they are pretty pricey and the Reveal brand seems to do just fine.)
