Dying Aloe Vera

: Hi. I have an aloe vera plant whose 'lengths' at the base are wilting but the growth at the top of the plant continues. This cause the plant to lean over and needs to be held up by a stake. If I remove the wilted parts, then I am left with a thin-stemmed base that is top-heavy....it looks awful. What should I do? Thank you.
