: Update on my previous posting. I did a lot of web surfing & almost everything I found online said not to plant an aloe deeper. But, I went ahead & did it anyway. I took the plant out of the dirt and let the roots thoroughly dry out for a few days. Then I cut off the bottom stems & re-planted it deeper in a 2/3 potting soil, 1/3 sand mix. (If I did this over again I think I would cut off the bottom stems immediately & give them a chance to dry out too.) I gave it a little water when I transplanted it and then again about a cup or two last week. It's been about 3 weeks and so far it seems to be doing fine. I don't know if it makes a difference (if you try to replicate), but I also keep my aloes under a grow light in the winter.
: : Darn! I have exactly the same problem (with several Aloes) & was actually hunting online to see if it would hurt the plant if I "replanted" it a little further into the soil.
: : Mine is not related to watering though, they have just grown gangly, so I don't think you have to worry about the watering (unless you watered it so much that rot has set in). I did read elsewhere that it's ok to take a sideways growing plant & re-plant it straight up (with he roots now at an angle), so I'm hoping that means it would be ok to plant an aloe deeper.
: : Since I have several this way, I might just experiment with one & let you know how it turns out. (Or if I find more info in my "hunt", I'll let you know. I would also appreciate anything you find out!
: : Thanks,

My Aloe 21/2 feet high and about 3 feet across also toppled over last year. I put it centered in a large clay pot , set it deeper and put three rocks under the branches to hold it up. Mine goes out side in the summer in a shaded area and I put it in a bright south room in the winter. The plant is 5 years old and is sending up a flower shoot which has suprised me as everyone told me they do not bloom boy are they wrong. Also I turn my plant 1/4 turn each week to keep it growing straight , all pups are pulled out when about 6 inches high and either planted or tossed out.
