Sick aloe plant! Need Help!

Hi! I got an aloe from my friend because he knows that I like plants and that I am good with them. This is my first aloe that I've helped bring back to health(I do this sort of things for my friends all the time). He says if I can keep it alive that I can have it. Can anyone tell me the basic care for an aloe, how to make it flower and give off pups, and how to bring it back to normal from a sickly state. Thanks to anyone who can help me.
