I thought it would be warm enough to start leaving out over night, but came home after Mem Day weekend and my beautiful, thick-leaved aloe is turning brown and withering!  Help!  I have babied this plant from a start I got from a friend a year ago.  It was almost 3 feet tall and very heavy until last weekend.  What should I do?  Thanks:(

: : Thanks Newt, I knew I would hear from you.  It is looking ok on some parts of the plant, but others are dead on the ends and blotchy.  Should I take the little pieces (pups?) and plant them separately from the big one, in hopes they will take off?  Thanks again for your help. By the way, it's southwest Missouri.  Jeanne

: You're so very welcome.  I'm glad your aloe seems to be surviving.  I usually let the leaves that are looking poorly just wither away.  It's easier to remove them then.  If you like, you could cut them near the stem and they will callous over.  Once they start to get brown and blotchy, they usually continue until the entire leaf is gone.  You could certainly take the pups and plant them up.  Try and gently dig around so you get roots with them.  If you don't get any roots, just let the pups sit in a shady spot for 2 to 4 days until they have a callous on the end that goes into the soil.  Then stick them in moist soil and they should root for you.  That is how you root succulents. If a leaf falls off some of the smaller varieties, I just let it lay on the soil for a few days.  If a root hasn't sprouted, then I stick it in the soil and voila`, I have a new plant!

: Gosh, SW Missouri.  Guess you've had your share of cold weather too.  It was 46* and raining here in Maryland this morning, and I'm not in the mountains!!!  I'm sick of all this rain.  We're having March weather in June!! YUK!
