: Your friend should have dug out the 'pups' (baby plants) and potted those up. They should have their own root systems. Keeping the entire root system in water will definately kill your aloe. You don't need rooting hormone. Just remove the plant from the water and see if you can separate the babies and pot those up. If given full sun and the proper water (water when the top inch of soil is dry) they should be large in a year or so. You might also try letting the main root system dry out for a day or two and then pot it up and cross your fingers.

Hi Newt,
This is a great discussion board. I have been reading other posts here. It looks like your the ONE here. Should I let this mother plant sit in some sun for a couple of days before planting, so it can callous, so I'm reading. I'm going to send you a pic of it if you don't mind. I really hope it makes it. My fingers are crossed.
