G'day everyone,

I live in Australia and grow*few types of plants such as begonias, cactii and succentlents, orchids, a few roses and around 500 varieties of carnivorous plants. I been into carnivorous plants for around 12 years.

I also own a dog, cat and mob of frogs that live in the greenhouse.

Welcome to the Backyard Gardener.* I also have a cat, 3 dogs and many plants.* The only carnivorous plant I've ever grown was a venus flytrap about 25 years ago, and that was really my son's.* Unfortunately for the plant, neither one of us really knew how to keep it alive for long.

Venus fly traps are easy to grow when following a few rules. These are based on the fact that Venus fly traps, like most carnivorous plants,*are in fact swamp plants.

The potting media must be sphagnum peat moss and sand, use rainwater for watering and stand the plant in the water and don't let it dry out.

Khoas, thank you for the great tip, but my son is now a grown man and I don't extect we will be growing any more carnivorous plants.* :)* Most of my house plants are easy care and low light plants and most of my garden plants are US natives.* I am considering an orchid for the middle of the dining room table, but not sure I'm ready for that yet.*
