Blooming issues

:( I am not a new gardener but a trial by error gardener. I have been gardening for about 4 years now and my husband and I bought a new home almost 3 yrs ago. I have many perennials and it seems like they take longer to bloom than other's in a nursery or in gardens I drive by. Any suggestions in what I should do, I am going to add more compost and wander what a good fertilizer safe for the environment. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.[/b]

Hi Iluvmygarden,

Later blooming perennials doesn't mean that yours are sick or have a problem. Often the plants in nurseries are in bloom a little earlier as they have come from indoor growing envirionments which can force them earlier than in a regular garden. Also, you might have a specific micro-climate in your garden which is a little colder than other landscapes in your neighborhood causing them to come up later. Fertilizing with organics is fine but won't necessarily change their bloom time.

Hi Iluvmygarden,

Great advice from Pruninggal! Compost, compost, and compost tea! Also try sea kelp (seaweed) or fish emulsion.
