Can you control a buddleia's height

My husband didn't like it that our buddleia was 12 feet tall, so he just went out and cut it all back thinking that it would grow in thicker and shorter. I don't think this will happen. I think the bloom has just been destroyed for the season. Who's right?

    Hi Ghodur,

Sorry to say he's correct. Buddlea is best cut back to about 12" to 18" before leaves appear in late winter or early spring. If cut back after they are in full leaf, they will just bloom a bit later.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
