Compost

I'm composting using a standard plastic composting container but I'm thinking about using my grass cuttings as each year as I have a lot that go to waste. I've heard that equal parts grass cuttings and shredded paper/cardboard either added to other compost or composted seperately will eventually make a good compost/mulch. I'm concerned, however, as to how suitable this will be - i.e., will it be acidic, will it be the opposite, will its nutrient value be low if composted separately? Any help would be appreciated.

Dave, the more diverse the matter in your compost the richer in nutrients it will be.* Add kitchen veggie scraps, egg shells, spent coffee grounds (Starbucks gives them away for free, but bring your own sturdy covered container), leaves, sawdust, weeds that haven't gone to seed, fruit scraps, etc.* Here's more ideas.

Thanks again Newt. I'm trying to save my kitchen waste for a wormery that I'm in the process of settling in. Presently just finding out what the little critters like best (although I'm told they'll pretty much eat anything, even the contents of the vacuum cleaner). It's only week two so I'm keeping it simple. I moved it into a garage today and wrapped bubble-wrap around it as we've just started to get frosts again. Anyone out there got a wormery?

Dave, you could ask at a local grocer for their veggie scraps.* Even a pub that serves food or a sandwich shop.* I don't have a wormery, but there's loads of info out there on the net if you need it.* Just lmk.
