I have convolulous and have been using the dig and pull method and its been quite sucessful however there are still some patchs that are coming back regularly should I poison or is there a more garden friendly method.

I'm not a person to use poison, so I really can't recommend that. You might want to consider vinegar. It's an excellent weed killer. We're not talking the 5% stuff you get at the grocery store, though you might want to try that, but the 20% that is used as a weed killer. These sites should be helpful.
