It is not recommended to grow wisteria from seed if you want flowers.* Wisteria is considered an invasive in many states.* It needs a VERY sturdy structure to grow on and can bring down a porch over time.* Wisteria can take 5 to 7 years or more to bloom from seed.* Here's some wisteria faq's.* Be sure to read #13.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Well I did not know that they*cant bloom from seed. I wonder who set out all the plants bloom in the woods around here? They are invasive if you are lazy as to not keep the runners trimmed or plant in bad locale. What I was going to write to disabled vet is how to create a bush from seed. When I was younger my mother and I started seeds from wisteria you should see the bushes in the spring, what a spectacle. They put on a**show in their 5th year. Good try but dont always beleive what ya read. Have you ever tried kudzu LOL.

Railsender, I think you misunderstood about wisteria blooming from seed.* They do bloom from seed but they don't always look like their parent and can take several years before they bloom.

Yes I agree, I beleive misunderstood was not the word I think ignorant was more like it. LOL I checked with my local nursery today and they have 1 gal started alba wisteria for $1.98 . I think it would be cheaper for the vet to buy it than propogate. By the way Newt I am in south Arkansas an am looking into planting a golden rain tree #*1 is $17.90 and #5 is $92.00 . I am diabled as well and funds are tight. Wonder how this tree will do in my zone. Sandy loamy soil pH*around 6.7 Thanks for any help on this Newt.

Railsender, the goldenrain tree would be a good choice for you.* I don't know how many trees you intend to plant, but if you join Arborday.org for $10.00 you will get free trees.* As a member you can purchase a 3' to 4' goldenrain tree for $6.98 or as a non-member for $10.50.* Not bad.* Keep in mind that purchasing a tree that small will take time for it to grow.* Generally speaking we plant trees for our grandchildren. :?
