    Fertilizing Over Mulch Question

We have areas that have been landscape matted (weed matted) and then mulched over. I've never fertilized and the plants (a variety that I don't know the names of, azaleas, a lilac tree/bush, and rose bushes) are getting peaked.

What would be a good fertilizer to use that will reach down past the mulch (beauty bark) and thru the matting?

I'm not even a novice so please don't assume I know gardening terms

Any and all tips and advice will be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    TwoRails

Hello TwoRails. Ken here with The Home Depot in the Chicago area.
You can use liquid fertilizer like backyardgardener said or granular too.
First, pull the mulch away from the plant. Apply the fertilizer, water in, (if
granular), and rake the mulch back into place. For the azaleas, use an acid
fertilizer specifically for azaleas. For the others, use an all purpose 10-10-10.
I hope this helps. Take care.

Sounds good. Thanks for the tips Ken and backyardgardener. Although I'm kind of in the proverbial boonies, I do have a Home Depot pretty close. Sounds like a good weekend project.
