Hi Luverofplants,
Aluminum is very popular these days and there is alot available these days that look like wrought iron.* I would think that the style of your garden would dictate the type of furniture you use.
If you are considering wood, teak is excellent, but I would only use or purchase sustainably harvested teak. Alaska yellow cedar is also good as well as preservative treated southern yellow pine.* Here's a site that explains sustainably harvested wood.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
I agree with Newt.. .I have aluminum set which I purchased from Costco.*
If you were going to make your furniture, it's all based on your design and how long you would like it to last.* Teak is the prefered, followed by cedar or swamp cedar.* Some people like to dabble into making wicker chairs out of willow branches.
I use to make furniture out of drift wood.* I can hear the chain saw now.

use wood!!
I personally think wood looks a lot better than the aluminum many people use today, but it's all about personal taste and what you like.
It also has to do with your location. I'm in the PNW and I know I could use wood (teak) but due to the maintenance, I elected to use aluminum.

If you were traveling to accomplish your furniture, it's all based on your architecture and how continued you would like it to last.* Teak is the prefered, followed by cedar or swamp cedar.* Some humans like to dabble into authoritative cobweb chairs out of willow branches.

Hello
Tips for Buying Garden Furniture:
1)Wicker and rattan: Wicker and rattan furniture has a traditional look and modest cost, but it's susceptible to mildew and requires protection from weather and indoor storage in the winter.
2) Metal: Metal is durable but cold to the touch and usually needs cushions. Steel and iron are expensive and can rust; aluminum is rust-free and cheaper.
3) Resin: Resin is used for inexpensive and lightweight furniture. It is casual, available in many colors, and easily cleaned with soap and water.
4) Wood furniture: Wood furniture comes in numerous styles. Weather-resistant hardwood can be left untreated; it's low maintenance and durable but costly. Regular and pressure-treated wood are inexpensive but need regular painting or staining. Tropical hardwoods are another option, if you can be sure the wood is plantation grown and not cut from old-growth forests. Let rot-resistant hardwoods weather to a silvery gray or apply oil or stain annually to maintain their original appearance.
5) Which type of furniture you choose will also depend on the theme of your garden. An old-fashioned cottage-type garden will need to be furnished differently than a modern spacious garden. If you are not sure which furniture will look best in your garden, consult a design specialist to help you with the decision.
