    Help for a laid-up gardener

    Hi -

My stepfather is an avid gardener (in Northern Minnesota.) Last week he broke his foot when a tree fell on him... and now he has to be on crutches for 4 months.

Needless to say, he's desperate. Do any of you have any suggestions for gift ideas or activities that might help assuage his misery?? He can be outside, and sitting down, but can't do any serious work on their land. I feel terribly sorry for him - he's waited all winter to finally get outside and get things done!!

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas...

How about getting him some binoculars so he can at least see all the things that need to be done? Plus he can see some wildlife too. Also, what about getting him a nice big pot to fill - if it's chest height when he's sitting down he can still plant it and fuss over it himself with minimal walking around.... I'm sorry for him! I get really restless too when I can't get about...
