How to survive a Michigan winter
Hi Everyone,
I just got my new spring 2004 gardening catalogs :D so I will spend a lot of time this winter planning. This past summer was the first growing season in our new home and it was exciting but I have a lot more to do. I am also trying to resurrect a dying fushia. It didn't do well in the yard this summer so I am going to spend some time and TLC on it this winter.
Happy Holidays,
Jenna

Ayup you lot :D
New on here, hope you'll have mi like 8) From yorkshire, England but now in Canada, and some years it a long cold winter so I plan my yards for next year as I have 48 that I look after in the summer. So that keeps me busy in the gardening area. Plus I tinker in the greenhouse and with houseplants. But as much as I enjoy Gardening the winter is a welcome rest :D

[b]Hi groundskeeper. :D
Good to have you here as you could give us lots and lots of advice!
Sometimes that is how I get to sleep, thinking of ways to change and add to my 5 perenial gardens.
Would you have any suggestions what to plant to add a background for a curved patio garden?
I have read it makes it look more like a 'room' if it has some background plants...I am thinking of something about 4 ft. tall, probably not an evergeen hedge as that would get expensive!
Maybe some kind of seeds I could plant?
Also, how do you add the pictures? :?:
I know how to use html and add pictures with the "img src code" but it doesn't work for me here at this site.
THANKS
Love, Janie

Hi Janie
Depending what zone your in you could use Box or Privit and while that grows to the hight you want interplant them with Delphinium or Hollyhock which grow faster.
Another idea is a mound at the back of the bad about 18" high, then you have more plants to choose from that will make the hight. The plants in front of the mound need to hide the dirt though to get the right effect :D On the backside of the mound if it can be seen plant a low ground cover. Hope this helps
As far as getting photos to your post here from a website just right click the picture, properties, highlight the url right click it, click copy, enter the forum click :D
From your PC you need to upload photos to the net first, an account with www.picturetrail.com is good

Hello. :D As you can see it didn't work for me! :(
Under Options to the left it says HTML is OFF, how do I get it on?
See if you can copy and paste above and add here.
It is a picture of me standing behind my huge elepant ear plants.
I am in zone 5, Northern Indiana.
You had good ideas for background planting.
This gardening message board is usually quite slow so glad to see a prompt reply from you.
Love, Janie :D

If you remove the photo from the site you copied it from or the web site is not available this happens  THE RED X
