I received what I believe is an Impatiens Walleriana last spring for Mother's Day so this plant has a lot of sentimental value. I think it's a Walleriana because in doing a google image search the Impatiens Walleriana's flowers and leaves looked the closest to the plant I have. (I did try to photograph the problems I'm having with the plant but naturally couldnt get them to transfer from my digital camera to the computer LOL)

Anyway, the plant seems to have brownish mottling on the bottoms of the new leaves and produces little spike looking things on some of the stems that develop what looks like a crystal that is hard but very sticky. Often after I see the little crystal things on the stems, I notice some webbing among the leaves, so I thought spider mites. But upon shaking the leaves onto white paper, found no evidence of spider mites. So I've been diligently picking off the little crystals thinking they may indicate some kind of infesttion - once the webbing spreads, the plant seems to die off.

Are these sticky "crystal" looking things normal, or the brown mottling on the under sides of the new leaves? I hate to think I'm picking off those crystals if it's something normal for the plant to have them. And if I see the webbing again, should I just treat for spider mites?

Any ideas would be apprfeciated much!
