How do I get rid of the grass and weeds in an area that I'm planning a new garden.* From the looks of the area it used to be lawn maybe 2 or 3 years ago, but has been dug up by dogs and just let go to heck for a while.* I want to plant vegetables there and need to clear it.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
