New to me rototiller

I have just aquired a (new to me) but rather old roto tiller.* It is a Garden Way TH 1019.* Runs like a champ, but the only thing I can't figure out is how to get it in a lower gear so when I'm tilling it doesn't run off at 15 miles an hour.* When I put the wheels in nuetral the tines turn, but it doesn't seem to move forward at all. if I engage the wheels it takes off real fast.* Anyone got any suggestions?????:shock:

Any manuals?* I would just reverse engineer the linkage process.* Maybe you need a little muscle power to hold it in place when its running.* Good Luck.

GPC, I was going to suggest a manual too, but decided to do a bit of searching.* Apparently Garden Way went out of business quite some time ago.* This conversation should help you get some help.

I have the exact same tiller and your tiller is a dual speed tiller.* To adjust the speed stand behind the tiller like you are walking behind it in normal operation and look down at the base of the engine.**You should see a set of pulleys and a short belt.* Yours may be hidden by a belt guard, mine has not been for 20 years.* There is a two stage pulley comming off of both the engine and the the tire drive box.* It sounds like you have yours in high gear,*belt on the large engine pulley and on the small drive box pulley.* Make sure the engine is off and the tiller is in a stable condition, AKA won't tip over.* Move the belt to the small pulley comming from the engine and to the large one going to the tire drive box.* You*WILL have to play with the forward reverse lever to get the belt tension loose enough to allow moving of the belt, and you may have to use some tools like a big flat tip screwdriver about 18 inches long to get the belt started on the next pulley.* Allways follow shop saftey and use gloves, eye protection, and anyother saftey procedure that allows you to do the job and stay out of the ER.* It is not a hard job and the reality is that as long as the shed is not too far from the job site, once you set it you will forget it.

I also have a Garden Way TH-1019 with a Kohler 7HP engine. Runs great but time to sell. What is a reasonable price?* Is this the same as a Troy-Bilt ( got used many years ago).
