privacy - nosy neighbors- fast growing plants!
good morning!
i am not new to gardening, but am still learning everyday-, my question today is:
i live in a very small, tight neighborhood, the houses are so close you can almost reach out and touch----- Ok, my NOSEY neighbor took it on himself to cut down all my hedges (along my driveway) wich also runs down his driveway (side by side driveways- with hedge inbetween-- anyway he cut them all down! leaving a big open space, now whn I come and go, he is always there to watch me, we have NO privacy in the front of our home - and we always feel like we are being watched!!!!, so, what can I plant that is fast growing, and gets really tall, and gives me lots of privacy in a hurry??????
thank you in advance----->> ps, I live in Atlanta Georgia (deep south=hot hot hot)

Hi Ginai...
Don't be discouraged (or shout at us in caps!)... even the forum moderators are crazy busy at their own jobs and can't get around to replying to their own email - wait, that's me! One tip - when posting make sure your area or zone is listed so people can be more prepped to make a suggestions. It might not do any good for me to suggest something that's fast growing here in Seattle when you might live in the midwest.
If you go to http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/nwest/ , scroll down to the bottom where has a search box, type in the words "fast screen" - you will come up with many results on this topic recently discussed.
Good luck,
pruninggal

You should always do some research yourself instead of always relying on others for your information.
I saw your post yesterday, and not living in Georgia have no clue what grows in the area, but my initial reaction was to say KUDZU.
Now I didn't because of the nature of the plant I felt it was inappropriate to recommend a noxous weed, but after your mean-spirited posted today I wish I had, and since you seem to be to lazy to do any work yourself you might just have planted it, and the reprocussions would have served you right. :!:

JJJ - not very nice, but I couldn't help but laugh!
Ginai - you didn't say how tall the screen needed to be. If something that can get 30-50 feet tall is ok, then a cedar green giant is hard to beat. (Grows 3-5 feet per year.) And there are many types of cedars that seem to be one of the screens of choice around here. (I'm also in Georgia, zone 7b.) If you want something cheap and moderately fast, that tops out around 10', ligustrum can be okay. These are just a few choices. There are many others....

DRIVEWAY
HI!! I ALSO HAVE A DRIVE NEXT TO A DRIVE, BUT I HAVE NICE PEOPLE NEXT DOOR. DO YOU HAVE A FENCE AROUND THE REST OF YOUR YARD? I PUT UP A PICKETED FENCE BETWEEN OUR DRIVES. YOU COULD PLANT A VINE TO GROW OVER IT. BUT CHECK AND SEE HOW HIGH OF A FENCE YOU CAN PUT UP. IN INDIANAPOLIS WE CAN ONLY GO 4 FT. IN THE FRONT. WAS YOUR SHRUBS HANGING OVER ON HIS SIDE OF THE PROPTERY LINE? IF NOT HE WOULD BE BUYING ME SOME NEW ONES. HE CAN ONLY CUT WHAT IS HANGING OVER HIS SIDE OF THE LINE. GOOD LUCK ECHO :D
