I live in Charleston, South Carolina. The back yard of my new home has been covered in concrete. I would like to build a raised bed, but I am unsure of the best way to protect the concrete and still have adequate drainage for the bed. Can I build the bed directly on top of the concrete slab? What is the best way to assure proper drainage? I thought about cutting a large PVC pipe in half and drilling large holes into them and lining the bottom of the bed with these to allow drainage. Will this work?* Does anyone have any other ideas? Any help/guidance with planning/building this raised bed would be very much appreciated. I am looking to start building as soon as possible as spring in Charleston is just around the corner. Thanks so much.
