New house, all new landscaping to do and I have red clay soil! Will I need to dig a number of inches out and replace with good soil? What will be my best way to go about it. Will grass seet that I throw down grow in the clay? Appreciate the help!

Hey JamieK. Ken here with The Home Depot in the Chicago area. Red clay, huh?
The only things that I know that will break up clay are organic matter and gypsum.
Don’t get rid of the clay, amend it with gypsum and organic matter(compost, mushroom
Compost, mulched leaves and grass clippings). Rototill it in until it’s a 50/50 mixture.
I hope this helps. Take care.
Thanks much Hortman. I'll be tracking down some gypsum this weekend!
