Soil Amendments Not Working for just one area - ideas?
Hi everyone - I'm brand new to the "community" but have been a fan of this site all summer (when I first started "serious" gardening) - I know if anyone can help with this very unusual problem it will be one of ya'll. We're planting 11 Soft Touch Japanese Hollies in a very, very clay soil area (Atlanta). I know this non-draining soil just wouldn't work, so we dug our holes 24 inches by 24 inches (shrubs are in 3 gal) and filled with a mixture of mushroom compost, Black Cow composted manure, soil amendment (pulverized pine products) and sandy garden dirt. Before we could get the bushes planted we had a torrential storm. Out of 11 holes, 9 drained as planned. The other two still have water standing in them after 24 hours. And the really weird part is those two holes are separated by a hole that drained well. I need help quick and I know I can't plant anything in those "standing water" holes! Ideas, experience....? Thanks ahead!
