    Vanishing plants!

I am gardening in a new location and have been faced with a weird problem that no one has been able to answer for me.

i had a spring garden for the first time and planted leaf lettuce, spinach, carrots, and onions. Everything was good for a while but then started having entire plants pulled underground. I would go out and there would be a big hole where the plant used to be. After it got the lettuce, it went for other things. I now have planted my summer crops and put in bush beans. They all germinated real cute in a row. I put DE on the ground around all my plants to keep snails and egg laying insect at bay. Today I went out and BOING! there were four holes where the plants used to be. Only undisturbed DE was around the hole where the plant used to be.. I put my finger in the hole and can tell it is definitely a critter coming from down there.

ANy body else have this happen?

Yeah sounds like there is a burrowing critter of some sort getting your veggies. How big is the hole that is left? There are traps and such that you can use to stop the critters from getting at your vegetables if it is a really bad problem.
