    watering guidelines

I live in Massachusetts and want advice on when I should start watering. I would guess in May or June? And how often I should water-I would guess that would depend if it was the spring or summer.

    Thanks,
    Karen

    Hi Karen,

What is it you are going to water - trees, shrubs, flowers, lawn, recently planted annuals?

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

    Hi Micci,

I live in Maryland in the US. It's just a few kilometers north east of Washington, DC. Our winter was rather cold this year, but we didn't get much snow or rain.

    Hi Newt,
I am turning 27 bthis year and in all my time I have only seen snow once. in the winter of 2007. it snowed in the night and in the morning when the sun came up it only lasted a few hours and then melted away. after checking all my plants and brushing the snow away I played like a child! hands was a bit forzen.
is it not hard to garden in that kind of weather? i just have problems to garden in a place where we get frost. i originally come from a sub tropical region where you do not cover anything in the winter. How does snow gardening work?

Micci, your story of your first snow gave me a big smile. We can't garden outdoors in the snow, but we do try and plant trees and shrubs that will have 'winter interest' with evergreen leaves and berries for the birds. Here's a picture of a deciduous holly called winterberry holly with snow on the berries.

Some people have heated greenhouses where they can grow plants during the winter.
