What is this "wild boxwood" looking thing. . .aka

Hey -- I'm new here, so go easy. I've got this wild boxwood-looking plant that is growing back along a fencerow at the back of my yard where I don't mow much. . .I swear, it looks like a boxwood, kind of. Easy to pull up -- roots and all -- it looks like it could almost be rhizomotous. It grows straight up, single stalk, small shoots off the central stalk. I don't THINK it is evergreen -- it/they have really taken off this spring and I'm trying to figure out what they are. . .they're everywhere and spread into the yard if left unmowed. Ideas?

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
