I thought I had made a post once regarding this, but cannot find. I found some petunias last year, pink and purple, popping up in the danger zone of the tractor in the middle of the yard. I transplanted them into a safe garden bed and they bloomed fabulously for me for a long time. Well, they just came up again and are blooming like crazy. I am confused, I thought they were an annual.* I also just found a slew more around my boxwoods that I never saw last year.

Are they perennials or annuals?

Thanks, Dina :)

Well, there are perennial petunias.* Most are native to South America.* Petunia integrifolia will return yearly in warmer zones such as 8 and 9.

Ruellia brittoniana aka Mexican petunia is also perennial.

The hybrids we often grow as annuals will reseed and eventually revert back to the species.* I've saved the seeds from purple petunias and over time, they become lavender flowers that are much smaller then what we're used to seeing.

I believe it is the Petunia integrifolia - I have all sorts of colors popping up. I transplanted 2 last year and they are also happily bloming in one of my beds. I love the pop of color. I went to digging yesterday and saved the ones I missed last year from the tractor. Thanks for all the info.

I purchased some yellow petunia from the local nursery - they are beautious! I sure wish they were perrenial. I will try to gather some pods from them at the end of thier growing season. I have one bunch in a hanging basket on the front porch so it is the frist thing I see every morning. Just lovely.

Wow!* Tha's pretty.* I wonder if you save the seeds if it will revert to the rose color of the species.* That would be fun to do.

Thank you soo much for that.* :D* You made me smile!
