    Petunias looking ragged

My petunias have already done their showy thing and are already looking ragged and worn out. It really hasn't been too hot here yet. It's only June! Should I gently cut them back, or over plant with something else that will take their place? Will consider other ideas too! I have them in a large bed which is in a partly sunny, afternoon shade area. Most are spreading petunias with some clumping taller varieties. Would really like to just plump them back up for a few more months if anyone knows how. Thanks for your help.

Yes, this is precisely the time to trim back leggy petunias. Just cut all the stems back by half. If you don't want to be without flowers while they are growing back, you can cut back half the stems now and the rest in a couple weeks. Just don't make any cuts below the lowest set of leaves and they will be fine.
