something is eating my petunias, HELP!

I just planted petunias last week in a flower bed that has been weeds for as long as I've known. They were fine for a few days, but then I noticed their leaves have been nibbled on. At the current rate of decline, there won't be any leaves on the poor plants in a few days. What should I do? I don't see any insects nearby. Could it be earwigs or slugs?

Sorry no one answered your questions! It probably was earwigs or slugs... either one are easy to control. Were you left with any petunias?
