    Transplanting Day Lillies

We have a stand of daylillies that has been established for about 14 years and are wanting to break it up and transplant some of them. When and how should we do that :?:

    Hi DayDreame,

I too live in Maryland, but I've been away in South America for a couple of months so I'm not too familiar with the weather there now. I'm thinking it may be getting a bit too late to transplant now because the development of new roots may not have enough time before the real cold weather sets in. I would suggest you wait until spring. If it was the beginning of Sept., I'd say go ahead. Take a look here for some helpful info.

They're pretty hardy plants. In the spring, dig them out and try and cut them apart with a sharp knife or pry the clumps apart with two pitch forks. The above site will show you how to plant them.

They are very hardy and can take a lot of abuse. I moved 75 and all I did is dig and replant. Everything was fine the following year.
