Will cosmos do well in part shade?

I started cosmos in jiffy starter packs last week (which are three inches high already) and I plan to put them in my beds against the house to protect them from the wind but my house faces west which means they will only get afternoon (very hot sun in summer) sun. I started them late last year in planters in partial shade (from trees) and just when they got going really well, the wind took them out. I am really hoping they can handle deep shade half the day and still mature. Any comment would be helpful. Thank you.

    Hi Lil,

It sounds to me that they will be getting about 6 hours of full sun. If that is so, they should do just fine. You may find them a little leggy.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Thank you. I planted them from seed last year in barrel planters (not knowing they would get that tall). I was crushed when a huge windstorm came up just when they were blooming profusely and knocked them all down. I have learned they can stand some crowding and it even helps hold them up so I want to plant them thickly along the house to give some nice high color against the house. I was really worried about the sun issue, though. Thank you again
