    watering cacti

    my cacti has a browning base since i brought it home a few mths ago there was no care instructions w/ them i was wondering how often do i water them and why is the base turning color//////my cacti didnt have the name listed but it is a cacti aprox 4 " high w/ a small ball like flower w/ spines on top and the stem has 3 flat sides can you help

    Hi Daisy,

    Water when the soil dries to the touch. Let the water drain through and don't let it sit in water for more then a few minutes. The browning could be from overwatering or just the aging of the stalk. Some cacti get a bark-like covering of the stalk as they age.

    When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
