Indoor Herb Garden

I would like to start growing herbs all year round. What advice can you give me regarding lighting, temperature, humidity etc. What are the benefits of having a cold frame compared to having a small shelf
type greenhouse? Also, when growing from seed what should the temperature, humidity be?

Good questions - I, too am wondering how I could grow my own. I don't have any windows in my kitchen (apartment) and I there is no gardening or anything like that available. I do have two windows that face east - would I be able to grow herbs inside?? Tx!
