Best material for a Staghorn Fern??

I have a Staghorn Fern which is starting to grow some larger basal fronds. I'd like to keep adding material for the basal fronds to grow over, to keep the plant's size up and to provide water retention. The plant is mounted to a board hanging on a wall.

I have been told to use Green Moss by a horticultural store, but that is so much lighter and less dense than the mossy, organic material that the plant originally came in. What is the best material to use??

Use sphagnum moss. It is easier to work with, retains moisture better, and lasts longer.
