You can't. It will grow slowly at it's own pace.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

actually, I wish mine would grow slower ...

lucky bamboo is a tropical, and I consider it somewhat of a weed.
It likes it warm and wet. The closer you can match its natural conditions,
the better it will like it.

Maren, in Hilo, HI, zone 11, with 110" rain so far this year,
and lucky bamboo growing in the yard.

As with nearly all plants, lucky bamboos will maximize their growth when they have optimal light. Optimal light for this plant is very bright indirect light all day long with a few hours of direct sun in the morning or late afternoon. Sitting right on a north or east windowsill is a good location. A greenhouse is even better - if you have one available!

In my case, I guess I kinda live in one.
    (greenhouse, I mean)

If your desk lamp is fluorescent, that will help. If it is not, then it won't help.
