White bird of paradise, might be sick?

Not sure if this huge plant is ok or not...Its in a large pot, it's getting new growth, but the existing leaves which are very large tend to split in many places and some have brown spots over them. Otherwise it appears healthy.

In nature, white birds of paradise have evolved to have their leaves split deliberately. The leaves are so large that if they did not split, the wind would blow them over and uproot them. So that is just part of their genetic makeup.

If the brown spots are slightly raised bumps that you can scrape off with your fingernail, then they are probably scale insects. If so, contact me and I will tell you how to treat them.
