    Beech hedges

Hello! I live in Central Kentucky. I am thinking about using beech hedges for privacy along my property line. Does anyone have any experience growing this hedge? Resources on purchasing? How far apart does each plant have to be to provide a dense hedge? Pros and cons? How high does the hedge grow each year? Pruning? Thanks!

    Hi AnnMarie,
Beeches grow to be huge trees. Here's a site you might find interesting.

    Here's another picture of it.

Is there something else that might work for you? Maybe something evergreen?

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

As Newt mentioned they can grow huge, but they are not particularly fast growing so as long as you stay on top of the pruning (1 a year) you should be ok I would suggest that at a minimum you allow it to grow to 7-8' tall. At this height spacing of 30-36" on center should fill in within 3-5 years.
