Thread: Gardenia...

  1. #1
I have been wanting a Gardenia.* I know a couple of ppl that have the larger ones in their yard.* I'd say 6+ feet.* I went today and got a 'Mystery' Gardenia.* They told me at nursery that it was the tall one but after looking up info, I'm finding it's max is 3 feet.* Does anyone know what I'm looking for or have a good Gardenia link that describes all/many types?

    Thanks!!

    Hi Syka,

There are about 250 species of gardenia and you don't say which one you researched that grows to 3'.* I did find this site.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gardenia

I also searched for a gardenia society and found one in California but it doesn't seem to have a website, just a P.O. Box.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

I learn something new everyday!* I didn't know there was one named 'Mystery'.* I'm sorry I didn't understand what you were saying.** I will say that most growers will give the size after 10 years of growth.* I have some very slow growing camellias that were 4' tall after 10 years.* Now after 28 years they're about 8' tall and have been pruned back for the last couple of years.* If you find a site that says a plant will get taller then the other sites you found, go with the tallest one and still give it a bit more space.
